Valentine’s Series: The Keys to My Heart Part III – ‘L’ is for Love…and Lasagna at The Grad Lounge

A favourite among Grad Lounge regulars, meat and veggie lasagna dishes!  Lasagna can taste different based on its noodle-meat/veggie-cheese ratio, but these squares (or cubes, rather) of lasagna are so outrageously delicious with their soft lasagna noodles and ooey gooey melting cheese.  I especially love the veggie lasagna with its freshly grated carrots, chopped spinach, and crunchy bread crumb topping.  The meat lasagna is a staple in the permanent menu, and the veggie lasagna makes a consistent appearance in the rotating menu of daily specials, as well as at numerous Dinner & Dialogue events.  The lasagna is hot and steamy and so fresh strings of cheese drag for miles; it then lounges out on your plate waiting to be devoured.

The veggie lasagna is one of my favourite Grad Lounge dishes and I love it so much that I could eat the whole aluminum tray of it Homer Simpson style.  Remember the Simpsons episode where Homer goes bat apeing shit crazy at the all-you-can-eat seafood buffet at the Fryin’ Dutchman?  And instead of taking a plate, he just grabs the whole steamed tray of seafood?  Yeah, that would be me.

The Grad Lounge is located at 166 South Ross at the York University Keele campus and have extended their hours to 9pm in the evening from Monday to Thursday, and until 7pm on Friday.  I’m working on getting a list of ingredients used in both kinds of lasagna, so when I do I’ll be sure to update!

Weekly Feature: The Grad Lounge – A Mozzerella Cube of Portobello Mushroom Goodness

This week’s Grad Lounge feature: layers and layers of penne pasta casserole surrounded by mozzerella cheese and savoury portobello mushrooms, served with a spring mix green salad with sesame ginger dressing and whole wheat roll.  Pasta, cheese, and mushrooms in a warm delicious cube?  Yeah, I’ll sign up for that 😀  Pasta bakes are such great comfort food and they just scream warmth and coziness.  The mushrooms have such rich flavour to them and as you dig into the casserole with your fork and knife (or, you know, you could also just spear the cube, lift it up, and bite into it like a beast) it’s like opening a food present!

You have that great cheesy baked crust on top that holds everything together and as soon as you start digging in, it falls apart into a melt-in-your-mouth combination of herbs and pasta.  YUM YUM!  I hope everyone is keeping warm and enjoying their holiday so far.  The last few weeks have been insanely difficult for me because of school and really, this blog keeps me going so thank you to everyone reading.  The holidays are always really special to me and I can’t tell you how full my heart feels from today and the last few days because of family, friends, and food.  Make some fabulous memories and have an amazing last few days before Christmas ❤

Weekly Feature: The Grad Lounge – Cannelloni

The pasta lover in me rejoices!  Tender tubes of cannelloni pasta filled with smooth ricotta cheese and smothered in savoury tomato herb sauce.  Served with a mixed green salad with sun-dried tomato dressing and a crunchy dinner roll.  It is definitely one of my favourite dishes at The Grad Lounge not just because it’s yummy, but I have a real soft spot for warm, comfort food dishes like these.  There’s something about pasta that fills up your heart and your tummy and I look forward to this one whenever it makes it way into the daily specials menu.  And check out the cute steam shot I got down below!

I really enjoy showcasing all the vegetarian and vegan dishes they have to offer, so expect many more to make its way in here in the weeks to follow.  Enjoy!
