It’s December 18th today and we all know what that means: ONE WEEK UNTIL CHRISTMAS!  Depending on where you are in the world, that leaves us with only 5 or 6 days to cram in everything we want or need to do before Christmas weekend hits.  I don’t know about you, but I am not my usual tip-top, “I-am-on-top-of-everything”, Christmas cheerful self this holiday season and although I’ve been feeling pretty letdown about a number of things going on in my life as of late, I am not blind to all the blessings I do have in my life so I’m trying my hardest to make the most of my Christmas holiday.  There is still a lot I am looking forward to, especially with the blog, so here’s the holiday edition of Bits & Bites with new features to come in the new year and Christmas baubles to come later on this week!

  • I finally started The Gingerbread Series yesterday with Moxie’s warm gingerbread cake with caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream, and LOTS of whipped cream!  Some of my foodie plans didn’t pan out this month and I ended up starting the series later than I had anticipated, but there’s still a lot I want to share, so I’m going to keep adding posts to the series well past Christmas and into the new year.  Gingerbread is a warm and cozy flavour fit for winter so I’m making it stick around!  I’m hoping to get my sweet teeth on some rumoured gingerbread cheesecake, some gingerbread and whiskey ice cream, some gelato, and a few others if I can manage it!

  • Christmas cupcakes!  There is no way I am going to let this Christmas come and go without a nice huge helping of beautifully frosted and decorated Christmas cupcakes and cupcake displays, so I’m going to try my best to get in a few posts this week!  Aside from the festive, tradtional red, green, and white colors, there are a ton of Christmasy flavours being dished out at a number of cupcakeries including peppermint and candy cane, and eggnog among others.

  • New series!  I started a new Specialty Grocery Store series my with my first post on La Tortilleria by Bloor and Dufferin.  I thought it would be really fun to feature different ethnic grocery shops and specialty food stores and I already have a few other places in mind to visit!  I know of a fabulous Filipino grocery store in the city that I can’t wait to go back to, so we’ll see how many I can explore!

  • New features!  I’m working on some new foodie delights for the blog and I’m hoping to have them ready sometime in January.  I really want to add an Address Book to the main menu bar and in it I plan on organizing all the places I’ve featured on the blog alphabetically with address and contact information.  I’ll have the name of the eatery, its address and phone number, and links to all the posts I’ve done on that particular place.  Can you tell I enjoy organizing information?! 😀

  • I love getting to know all the different neighbourhoods in and around the city so I’m also planning on creating a simplified Food Map in the main menu bar too!  I’ll have the city broken down by its neighbourhoods and underneath those regions I’ll have lists and links to all the places I’ve blogged about that are located within those areas.  Granted, the map won’t be exhaustive or anywhere near complete considering how much food we have this city and how the blog is only a year old, but this way, if you’re interested in exploring a specific neighbourhood at least you’ll have a few ideas of where you can nosh at!

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season the best they can and I can’t wait to go all out this week (and the week after!) and just enjoy all the great food and company I can squeeze in.
